H22a4 rev limiter

H22a4 rev limiter
I have a 98 Honda Prelude type Sh and when Im just parked and I try to free rev it it always just bogs around 6,500 but not always right on it. Sometimes it will rev all the way to 8 where the actual driving rev limiter is. The only code I have now is the heater out on my downstream O2 sensor. Is there some sort of free rev rev limiter or what else would cause this?

I wouldnt think that this would be that complicated of a question, I ask a favor of anyone with a 5th gen sh if they could get in their car let it warm up and try to rev it up while sitting and see if it bogs or cuts out at 6,500. Thanks in advance.

It might be a free rev limiter in there from the warranty department at Honda. The rsx has the same thing. can't rev high with clutch in to prevent burn outs and hard launchs. Don't know if preludes had this, but just a thought.

The 5th gen does have a rev limit of 8000 of sorts. It is actually a Fuel Cutoff. You can go that high-BUT the ECU is set to start the cut at 7400 actual-not what the Tach says. There is some evidence that you cannot sit and wind up the motor and dump the clutch-this is actually the case for the SS tranny. Honda does not do any tricks in their dealerships to affect the way the ECU works-they would be voiding their own warranty and the federal certification if they did. Our Tach's are notorious for their accuracy issues. Another thing, the ECU is setup to go into LIMP mode when you throw a CEL-which you say you have. Replace the O2 sensor and the engine should run above 6500.

My car is manual and until it's completely warmed up....It will cut off at 6,500.......But once it's warmed up completely it cuts off at 8,000
Has to do with oil pressure and vtec engagement...(so I heard)

I think all h22a hit rev-limiter at 6500 and have no vtec when not warmed up............ its prob in limp mode, happened to me when a clamp on my fuel line broke and i was leakin fuel and another time when i forgot to plug in the speed sensor on the trans after I replaced my clutch.......Check your sensors and try to fix any codes you might be throwing and it should go back to normal.
