Default 6th Gen - Aftermarket radio, keep storage bin?

Searching didn't yield much help with this question ....

I'm planning to replace the factory cassette/radio in my 1999 Accord LX with an aftermarket Sony CD Receiver. The installation kit includes a storage bin, but it's not as nice as the factory pocket with the door.

Is it possible to keep the factory pocket with an aftermarket radio? I know aftermarket radios include holes on the sides for the DIN brackets used by Toyota and some other Japanese manufacturers. Is it possible to adapt the Honda bracket to work with an aftermarket radio?

Thanks for any tips or pointers you can provide!

yes you can use the factory bin. in fact sony head unit can use the existing oem radio mounts. you may to remove the sony's trim ring and place it back on for the last part of the install.

This is great news! Thanks. I wonder why Crutchfield and others sell trim kits if the existing OEM DIN brackets work.

Cause they make money off them.

I'd go for something other than Sony but if you are set on it sure.

I'd get Alpine or the like instead.
