I like the angle that these images are shown at. Because I know if real life I slide around belly down on a skate board and that is the angle that I view my world...

Okay now for some spy shots of the real thing. They are, shall we say, rather less revealing than the photoshops.
Mercedes sure is taking its cladding seriously for this one. :chuckles:

Based upon pictures of the disguised prototype...
...What Auto Bild guessed from their computer-generated images is probably pretty close to the truth. Nice looking car, though I think M-B will probably have a quite different nose that what Auto Bild guessed at due to the new EU regulations for pedestrian safety. (Note how the European-market 8th-generation Honda Civic hatchback has a smoothly-shaped nose for this reason.)
By the way, don't be surprised that the C300 CDI (and possibly the C230 CDI) does come to the US market. With the wide availability of low-sulfur motor fuels by September 2006, that will make it far easier for M-B to do 50-state qualification for their turbodiesel engines.

A bit more info:
Still heavily disguised, and still some way off: the all-new W204-series Mercedes-Benz C-Class saloon will be launched in autumn 2007 in time for the 2008 model-year. Estate versions will follow a year later. The new C is intended to be much sportier, and much more of a driver's car, in a bid to win back buyers lost to the ever-popular BMW 3-Series. It will feature the latest M-B engine technology, including an electronic valvetrain with no camshaft and direct-injection petrol systems; there are also likely to be turbocharged petrol engines.

Here's a video of the same claddinged-up test mule at Edmunds:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=105774
The 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class isn't due until the spring of 2007, but as our latest spy video shows cold-weather testing is already well underway. Although the full-body camouflage hides the important details, it's easy to see that this C-Class will wear a much sleeker shape than the current model.
Most observers expect a C-Class sedan with more angular headlights and a tightly cropped rear end reminiscent of the new CLS sedan. A larger size is almost guaranteed as its arch rival, the 2006 BMW 3 Series, has recently grown to provide more room for adults in back. Interior details are still unknown, but given that the 2006 S-Class will get an iDrive-type controller it won't be too surprising to find one added to the C-Class.
A wide range of engines are on tap for Mercedes' new entry-level sedan although the current use of four-cylinder power plants is being reconsidered given their downmarket connotation in the U.S. The current 3.5-liter V6 used in the E-Class and M-Class vehicles is likely along with an even more powerful version of the current 5.5-liter V8 in the C55. An article in the German magazine AutoBild suggests that the normally aspirated V8 will have as much as 402 horsepower while a range-topping 6.3-liter V8 could offer 470 horses.
Tasty details for sure, but given that the 2008 C-Class isn't expected to go on sale until the spring of 2007, and the fact that it will be facing newer competitors like the 2005 Audi A4 and 2006 Lexus IS 350, the C-Class is going to need all the help it can get.
And a photoshopped pic:

I'm hoping this car turns out pretty nice.
I stopped in at the local Mercedes dealer today to see if they knew any more about the 2006 C350 than I did (they didn't h:) and took a peek at a C320. Pre-'05 I hated the C-class interior, but the '05 refresh looks freakin sweet.
So hopefully they'll keep up the good work and the '08 will look even nicer inside.
