02 Civic EX Coupe Speaker Installation - Honda-Acura.net

Posted this in the other forum but no replies so thought I would pose the question over here. Sorry about the double thread.

I got some replacement 6x9's for my rear. Very frustrated because the accessibiliy to the existing speakers seems very limited. A guy from Honda(a mechanic who seemed like he didn't know) said I would have to completely remove the back seat, remove the side panel, and then the rear panel...

I have a hard time believing it is that hard. It is obviously doable, but come on, seriously?

I don't know about that year Civic, but I have heard of people having to do that. I hope that's not the case, but if it is, pack a lunch or something.... Just kidding!

Well, it seems like I have to do that. After posting this thread I found a thread on the next page asking the same thing about an '03. Yes I will have to pack a lunch, since I'm a newbie at this. I'll be very hesitant to do anything I'm even slightly unsure about.

Naw bro. Don't be worried. You will find that things are really not that complex once you get into it. I was being sarcastic in a way, even though there may be some truth in it.
I think all you have to is pull screws and snap pieces out. You'll want to put everything back exactly the way it was, and if there seemed to be any adhesive in some places put some more there. Seriously. Getting on a computer is more complicated than this install.
I know I can't stand crackly speakers and even though it's little easier on my 94 (bucket) because I have the folding seats it still requires patience. (for me)

Yeah I'm sure I'll get it. It's probably a good thing it's a little tougher. I really need to learn to do things like this better on my own. So it should be good for me

I think I'm going to have to wait a while though...I'm in 10+ inches of snow right now and temps are dropping rapidly.

ya, the honda guy was right. the coupes are harder than the sedans. there is a way of not having to remove all the panels. people just remove the ones on the side of the rear window, then kinda squeeze the rear deck out but it will crack in the middle if this is done so don't try and get a easy way out. it takes a while, and work carefully.

Should I even try this in temps of 40-45 F? I would hate for the plastic to get too brittle and break. Right now it's too cold at below zero obviously, but next week we are expecting 40ish.

I'm now in 14 inches of snow.

yeah you got to remove basically the whole back... i dont know why they didn't make the speakers bottom mount... but it sucks... and im in the same boat as you

i would not worry about the cold, if your really worried drive around with you heat on so the inside of the car gets warm(when all the panels and stuff get warm). just becareful when you pop the panels out and you would not break anything. as i said, don't do it the way i listed, do it the right way with pulling things apart.
