Default oil light stayed on longer than usual

Does anyone have any ideas as to why my oil pressure light is staying on up to almost 10 secs after starting car in the morning. The light usually goes off right the way after I started the car in the past. The light only stays on longer when the engine is cold, in the morning. I was guessing that the oil sending switch could the the problem. Also, I am using 5-30 oil and I live in CA so the temp. is not too extreme. By the way, the car is 99gs with 28,000 miles. Any ideas??????

I'm sure you checked you engine's oil, especially when it's cold?

The oil level is fine. There are no leaks anywhere. I am going to take a look at the oil sensor this weekend when I change my oil. The oil sensor is pretty close to the oil filter. I was thinking that some oil might have spilled over on the oil sensor and somehow affected its function. I hope it is not the oil pump. I understand it is very rare to have an oil pump go out.

there is a little button underneath the dash near the steering column. hold it down for 5 seconds when the car is started. that light comes on for scheduled maintenance or check.

Well, I figured out the problem. It is the oil filter I used. Apprently, there are types of oil filters that has a valve to prevent oil from completely draining out when you shut down the engine. I just recently switched to a Napa silver oil filter that apparently doesn't have that feature. I will now switch back to the my old filter.
