Default Tranny fluid leaking out of right halfshaft

Has anyone ever encountered this before or know how to fix it? Me and my mechanic/friend changed the seal and double checked everything and tranny fluid still leaks out. I don't get it, I don't understand what it could possibly be. The halfshaft fits in properly and there's no sign of wear on it. We measured the hole for the halfshaft and everything is OEM spec. This is confusing me. It's a 2000 transmission put in my 1998. Please help, thanks.

Unfortunately, that's one of the giveaways that your transmission has gone bad. ATF leaks out of the shaft seal, and there is probably a lot more movement of the shaft than there should be. The team leaders at work do all the tranny diagnostics, but when I replace one, I read their notes, and on the 6th gen, that's why. Fluid leaks, and shaft has more "play" than there should be.

No this is a new tranny I just had put in my car. It's a 2000 tranny with 30k miles, and I drove it for about 5 mins before we discovered the leak. It shifts PERFECTLY, and feels like heaven compared to my old tranny that was slipping like crazy and clunking at every downshift and upshift. On this one you can't even tell when it downshifts, it's awesome. I have 151k on my car BTW, all on the original tranny which is now in a metal scrapyard.

So do you think that I got a bad transmission? Or do you think that the halfshaft needs replacement?

Best thing to do is to replace the half shaft first since its the cheaper of the two options. If it still leaks after that then it may be your tranny seals going bad. Which basically would mean its easier and quicker to swap the whole tranny out.

Thanks bro. The thing is that we measured the halfshaft up and down and everything is OEM spec. We're having a Honda tranny specialist guy come today and look at it. I called him and he suspects the bearings inside the tranny are bad, but I don't know how that would matter. The whole thing is pissing me off, I'm gonna call the place I got the tranny from and throw a fit after I get it figured out. This is ridiculous.

My theory is that the car was involved in a major accident and the right front wheel was involved, either pushing the halfshaft back into the tranny or somehow ripping stuff apart inside of it.

That is very possible.

Although it may appear to be solid by numeric interpretation there are certain items that cannot be seen without knowing there is a problem to begin with.

Seals are one of those items sometimes, another is the bearings...both can cause one or the other to go out and at times there is no telling until it is actually happening.

All fixed I guess he took the halfshaft back off and discovered that the outer seal had gotten pushed in somehow when he put the halfshaft in, so all he had to do was put it back and it works. Thanks for your help guys.
