Default What could be the problem with my precious 1991 Honda Accord SE?

I currently have a 1991 Honda Accord SE with 145KMi (got it at 125K) that's about to give up the ghost. I'd rather save up for the RSX than put anymore money into trying to fix it up. Its got an oil leak, transmission leak, a broken tire rod, and problem which it occasionally doesn't want to go over 30MPH after exiting highways on hot days (engine overheats, maybe IAC valve?).

It's the last problem that bugs me. As I come across more money, I could fix the other issues. I need to know why (without spending $100+ on a mechanic just to tell me what the problem is) why my car is doing this.

My car also just had problems idling (RPM pin jumps up and down when put in park after a logn drive). I think that's the Fast Idle Valve, but this problem started showing up about a month into the other problem. This usually only happens on extremely hot days. Someone said it could be the thermostat, but I recently had that replaced as I had an antifreeze leak, and that hose was replaced, and they installed a new thermostat.

Could that be the IAC valve?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

sounds like you need to just get rid of the car and start over with something in the $2000 range (like another accord with no problems). Otherwise, you're going to spend almost the value of your car in mechanic fees, and/or parts. Even if you do it yourself.

That's just my thought. I hate to be pesimistic.
