DIY: Most Honda 5 spd Models: Turn Characters Red

Ok, I know that there is another post on this, but I am going to give you the step by step instructions(this is really simple so you are only getting final pics)

Needed parts:

1. Crayon (color is up to you)

2. Hair Dryer, Heat Gun or Lighter

3. Paper Towel or toothpick

4. Small bottle of Scatch 2 in 1 Clear Top Coat from any autoparts store (you need one with a brush.

Steps:
1. Remove Shift Knob from shifter by uscrewing it.

2. Clean with cleaner of choice for vinyl

3. Get blow dryer or lighter (found blow dryer was less messy) and heat the end of the crayon (use color of choice) I chose red to go with the Type R Shift Boot

4. Once the wax starts getting soft, mash the top of the crayon into the where the numbers and lines are on the shift knob. Repeat heating and pressing as necessary till all of characters and lines are covered thoroughly. There will be a bunch of excess wax on the top, but don't worry.

5. Let the wax cool, then gently wipe of excess with paper towel. Be very careful not to wipe out what is in the numbers and lines. (You can also use a toothpick, but I found it easier with a paper towel and taking my time).

6. Once all the excess wax is cleared off, take the touch up clear coat brush and apply an even amount of clear coat to the top of the shift knob.

7. Let this sit till it is dry, then reinstall shift knob.

Here are the finished pics, I am very happy with the result, I hope that you all enjoy.

The numbers are a lot more pronounced without the camera.

Hope you guys like this and have fun with it!!!

I had to do the same, but I bought a coloring book too....

I am working on another project right now that no one has done that I know of for the 99-00 Civics. Will keep you all updated when I finish tomorrow sometime.

I remember doing that mod on my stock shifter before I got my CTR copy.

It works well. Just remember to put enough on for those hot sunny days.

When I did it, I got the idea from coloring in my dice from the old D&D days.

Nice write up.

This is a simple but great idea. I went home yesterday after I saw this thread planning to try this, but I didn't have any crayons. So I used red high temp. paint that I had in my trunk and applied it with a sewing needle, and it turned out good. Thanx for the DIY idea. Good stuff

Try advanced auto or napa or maybe even walmart. Most autoparts stores have them
