Default CAI - BEST........ever!

hey i got a 98 civic si (CDN)
i want to putmy cai on....since we get some snow for 3 months of the year, i may put a breather on so it doesnt suck of the water from the freezing and thawing of snow/ice in the winter
does a breather take away any performace away from have a cai. like does it basically take away what the cai is suppose to do?
thanks!

From what I was told and read it's the same with it or with out it. Not a big deal anyways cause for the power it will take off you will never even feel it.

I've had a CAI on my prelude for well over a year and have gone through plenty of puddles and heavy rain storms without a bypass valve.

Unless you are planning on taking the car in the ocean... you probably will not need that bypass valve.

That is it looks really stupid.

i wouldnt go so far as to say there worthless....a friend of mine went through a huge puddle (actually, it was more like a creek) going down the street and it killed his motor. but i would say that common sense would stop this sort of thing from happening, he said the water was about 3 inches deep in one spot.....moron....CIVICS AREN'T BOATS

Maybe... maybe not....

My understanding was that a Breather also went by the name "intake bypass valve". It's is more like a safety device... It's a filter with interior flaps that are shut. It doesn't ingest air until the primary filter is blocked (by, like... water) and then the pressure drop in the intake causes the breather to pop open.

Check these out...

Taking a leap of logic, but if the breather was meant to stay open it would be mixing hot and cold air, as you suggested it might, so I would think you could just move your primary up off the ground out of water's reach and not even bother with the breather.

please dont be a moron, if you drive through a puddle deep enough to reach that thing, it'll suck up water and youre engine WILL die. Just use a short ram, the miniscule benefits of a CAI are not worth it.
