b20/VTEC being built/ some questions please help.
Im on the last leg of building my MILD N/A b20/VTEC and i need some guidance from people that have already done it. My goal with this motor is to be at 200WHP and 140lbft.
Let me give you a rundown of whats in it right now.
Block:
b20
JG W/10.5:1 forged pistons
Balanced/blueprinted
stock Rods shot peened
Block girdle
ITR oil pump
GSR Waterpump
ARP Head Studs
GSR timming belt/tensioner
Head:
JDM ITR head Ported
JG I. Manifold matched(to head)
Matched TB
Stock ITR cams and valvetrain
TRanny:
JDM ITR w/LSD
Exeddy clutch
ACT 9lbs flywheel
Management
hondata s200
My questions is specifically about the rod bearings, which should i use? stock crv or B series VTEC? I was told that stock crv bearings could't rev out as high and would eventually crap out. Also does it really matter if i use the GSR waterpump and belt or should i go ITR?
Since im using a block girdle do i need to swap out to a different oil pan, windage and pick up? Anything else i should think about? Im going N/A and i dont want to run crazy cams or anything drastic to were i will sacrifice reliability. This is my first B series engine build. My experience is all Honda C series(NSX,Legend)
Thanks

I've always used stock B20 bearings but I would lose the stock rods in favor of some eagle H-beams. Shot peening your stock rods isnt all its cracked up to be. And I've used both GSR and Type-R water pumps neither of which gave me problems. Just make sure that you use the proper timing belt.

Stock b20 bearings will be fine the rods will be fine also. Just remember to keep the redline at about 8100. As for the water pump use either one gsr or type r they are basicly the same. You can use the vtec oil pickup but its not nessesary. I would just reccomend that you find a bottom end with low miles and leave it alone aside from the vtec head. Also remember that you have to drill out the dowel pin holes in the head and plug the stock v-tec hole also in the head before assembly. Other than that your setup looks pretty good I have no doubt you will hit 200hp easy.

By the way, when building your motor. Just remeber to drill a hole for our knoc sensor. The b20 motors dont come with it. You dont have to, but i did. I drilled a hole for my knoc sensor and no check engine light when using ob1 gsr ecu. Just thought this might help.
