Default Supplemental Insurance?

Any views on supplemental insurance? Good, bad, ugly? Have resisted purchasing supplemental thus far and my past Hondas, once past the factory warranty have had no problems. However, each new model becomes more complex with a potential for some horrendous and very expensive repairs. With this in mind, which policy should I purchase and would it be wise to wait until near the end of the factory warranty coverage before investing?
Any comments will be appreciated.

are you talking about the extended warranty? i always think it's wise to invest in it.. once major problem can pay for itself.. my friend's m3 had a synchro go bad in 5th gear and warranty replaced the entire transmission.. 4k right there.. he's already gotten back so much back from the warranty..

syclone;
Would be interested in knowing the name of the plan and whether it could be purchased at the end of the factory warranty period, etc. In my case because of the limited number of miles I drive my 2004 Honda will be in warranty for the thirty six months which will come first. Only then would the extended warranty kick in. I will then have to decide whether to trade a car that is barely broken in or continue to drive and have its blue book value diminish month after month during which time the extended warranty would provide peace of mind.
Thanks for your input.

well.. honda does provide their own warranty called 'honda care' you can ask your dealer, but it should be ok to purchase it anytime before your factory warranty expires..

my friend with the m3 has an outside warranty coverage provided by an independent company.. you'll have to check your local area for them.. those kick into effect at the moment you purchase it, so it's best to purhcase those near the end of your factory warranty.
