Default 6th Gen Catalytic Convertor Problem!!! (ULEV)

I need a new Catalyic Convertor for a ULEV 2000 Accord LX 4cyl.

I was getting a rattling under the car during takeoffs and some during idling. I figured it was the heat shield on my cat. con. (I had the same problem with my 1990 Accord LX). So, I take it to get looked at by my mechanic.

He discovers that there is something rattling INSIDE the cat. con which apparently means I need to replace the whole thing. Fine. What's the cost?

They check it out for me...

Aftermarket Catalytic Convertor (NOT compatible with ULEV) - $289.45
(ULEV Compatible) Catalytic Covertor - $1489.50

Okay, so can anybody help me find a cat. con on the net for a ULEV ACCORD???

PLEASE!!!! I can BARELY afford that $289.45!!! But $1500???? Is that real?

a highflow cat will still pass emmissions. I have one and haven't had a problem with it in Mass. Mass is pretty strict too(not as bad as Cali though) A highflow will work just fine. if it has the 02 bungs your golden, and if it doesn't the muffler shop can modify it for you.

Believe it or not I have 104,000 miles on my 2000 Accord (Back and forth between NC and MD for about 2 years.... long distance relationship....long story....married to her now, so.....)

Yeah, so the cat warranty is up. It was 8 years/80,000 miles....

So you say I can get a hi-flow on a ULEV Accord and be alright in MD?

You shouldn't even need a high flow cat the local hometown non-chain store muffler shop, my local town has Murphy's -- Your's could be Bob's or Ed's, should be able to cut the flanges on the exhaust pipe and fabricate an O2 bung if needed for your car so a normal $300 cat can fit the car.

hmm....the cat here cost $80 installed at the shop i always go to....

also, i think there's a law stating that if ur car has less than 100K (not sure abt this), the dealer has to fix it for free...

i just sold my 2000 4 cylinder accord OEM cat for $65 shipped(and im in the md area), you missed out BIG TIME. i tried to sell it for over 1 yr, finally sold it about a month ago. it had low miles on it, like 25,000 miles tops. would have lasted another 100 K miles, lifetime of a car.

RKV, I saw your thread on that (did the search first). You know you just cut a brotha, right?

My car has 104,000+ miles on it. Warranty is not an option.

Thanks MrChad for your helpful advice so far (on the other thread too - I posted twice by mistake). I will be checkin' out the muffler shops here to see what they can do for me....
