Malfunctioning MIL lamp
I just bought a '96 Accord EX and failed smog's in CA for two reasons...
1) EGR Flow Insufficient (P0401). I fixed this thanks (clogged EGR ports) to awesome advice on this site and honda-society.com...
2) Malfunctioning Malfunctioning Indicator Light (Check Engine).
I have looked through my manual and online and can't find specific help on this. My guess is that the previous owner purposefully disabled it so he could dump the car (which had the EGR error). The Chilton wiring diagram says that the MIL is on fuse 13, but other posts seem to indicate that fuse 13 is the ECU memory power. ?
Any help on where the lamp malfunction might be?

accordhybrid,
I don't think we're on the same page. The computer is generating error codes correctly, but the actual MIL lamp is not 'on' in an MIL condition. In other words, since I've had the car, the MIL has never turned on, but I do get error codes from the data port.

MIL Lamp is not going to get you much views/replys.
Not many people at all refer to it as malfunction indicator lamp unless they read a manual or something man....................
run a search for CEL, Check engine light, codes and you might come up with some interesting stuff.
Hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks for the info...
I just came off an hour of searching and found that there seems to be a CEL lamp. Here's where I'm confused, I took apart that big huge mess of stuff to get to the instrument cluster, and the only exposed lamps were the blue-tinted bayonet lamps for dash illumination. So I assumed that the CEL lamp was an LED.
Maybe I was wrong and have to actually take the instrument panel apart. Oh boy...
