Default VIN Discrepancy: Checking your VIN? Good info here.

Autocheck.com seems to have a discrepancy in their system - Integra Type R's come up as RS's in their system. The 8th digit of our VINs is 1, and RS's are 4... seems like a data entry error.

I sent an email, and a friend of mine called in the issue. They opened a 'service ticket'. Hopefully they fix it.

NADA and carfax, etc, all have the information right. But when getting a loan, selling your car, researching, etc, it is possible you could get all goofed up if you check with autocheck. My loan agreement said 'Integra RS' until I raised the issue with the Credit Union.

Hopefully the phone call fixes the issue for good.

Email recieved from Experian/Autocheck today:

Hello Chris,
I submitted this to our vin decode team for review. It turns out
that you are correct and that it is being displayed incorrectly. There
is an error that is occurring when the description data is loaded, causing it to
show as RS rather than R. Our vin decode team has submitted a ticket to
correct this. The good news is that every month they do updates on vehicle
descriptions. The bad news is that the correction from RS to R will not
show on the report until sometime around March 22nd. Please feel free to use
this email as a confirmation that we are displaying the information
incorrectly at this time, but are in the process of correcting the mistake. If a
potential customer/dealer etc has any questions about this, please have
them give me a call at 888-409-2204 so I can answer any questions they may
have.

Thanks for your help on this one! Have a great evening!

Good news. There should be no more VIN discrepancies any longer in about a month.

great info. chris! posts like these i think are what make up good boards. will keep this in mind when the vin ever needs to be pulled.

on a long side note:
perhaps my insurance company, when i initially signed up, had the same mishap. i specifically told them that the car was a "type-r" and not a gs-r or gs, expecting the premiums to be a ballpark amount. when they gave me the quote, it seemed very low. i contacted them again and asked them if they were certain they had entered it as a "type-r". they confirmed "yes". several months later, they called back notifying me that they had incorrectly classified my car. to help out with the error on their part, they gave me the same rate for the rest of the 6 month period. my premium had gone up slightly after the period ended, but it was smoothed by my continuation discount.
