What's the redline of that 1.5 engine? Is it possible to stuff the Civic engine in the Jazz? Physically? This will be awesome because the Jazz has the length and Weight of a CRX but swallows two more people, comfortably. Isn't it amazing?

Let's hope Scion do good so the Jazz and that Nissan funny thing and Mitsu Colt all come here.

(A NYTimes reporter called me about the Scion for a stupid post I made in edmunds.com, apparently nobody knows what to make of and expect form this Scion operation.)

Just for the sake of comparison here are the dimensions of the Fit and Scion xA (Toyota ist)

Honda Fit
Length - 150.8 in
Width - 65.9 in
Height - 60.0 in
Wheelbase - 96.5 in
Track (F/R) - 57.3/56.9 mm
Weight - 1010 kg (2222 lbs)
Engine - 1.5 liter 110 hp

Toyota ist (Scion xA)
Length - 151.8 in
Width - 66.7 in
Height - 60.4 in
Wheelbase - 93.3 in
Track (F/R) - 57.3/56.5 in
Weight - 1020 kg (2244 lbs)
Engine - 1.5 liter 109 hp

Very close. I'd have to agree on the Fit's interior being much nicer.

Some more assorted photos:

The thing about some Honda cars is that they look so small from the outside. For example the CRV and the Jazz. I have seen the BBX in the New York show. It doesn't feel that small. It's like a taller 5th gen Civic hatch -- it soesn't look like a subcompact. Plus they have more detail on the outside than the Jazz. BHopefully he Jazz will have a better stick than the Scions.

It's a nice looking econobox. I know it's often not the priority of the owners, but bigger wheels and tires would go along ways to make the car look better, IMO.

Default Honda receives 3,000 orders for Fit Aria in the first month in Japan

January 24, 2003

BY KAE INOUE
BLOOMBERG NEWS

TOKYO -- Honda Motor Co., Japan's second-biggest automaker, said orders for its Fit Aria small sedan exceeded its target for the first month of sales in Japan.

Honda received 3,000 orders of the Thai-built model in the period, which is 1,000 more than the target it set when it released the car on Dec. 20.

Japan's small sedan market is about 200,000 a year, and Honda wants to win about 10 percent of that market, it said without giving a time reference. The Fit Aria, based on Honda's Fit compact car, is equipped with either a 1.3-liter or 1.5-liter engine.

The Fit Aria is the first model the automaker is exporting from Thailand to Japan and is priced between 1.2 million yen ($10,150) and 1.59 million yen.

The model competes with Toyota Motor Corp.'s Corolla and Platz cars. Honda also plans to import other overseas-built models to Japan to make better use of its production capacity abroad, President Hiroyuki Yoshino said last month.

Yet more pics, this time from the Honda Australia website.

Base price on the top of the line VTi-S model in Australian dollars is $22,490 for a 5-speed and $24,790 for a "7 speed" CVT with sequential-shift feature. Converted to US dollars (exchange rate as of 1/24/03) that's only $13,293.80 for the 5-speed and $14,653.40 for the CVT. Pretty freakin reasonable.
