Default No start condition - '91 accord

Hi

I have a ’91 Accord Lx 5spd. The car drives very well for it’s age, and is very reliable except for an occasional no start condition. Sometimes when you cut the car off and try to start it after some minutes, it just cranks but won’t start and run. Then if you wait say 10 to 15 minutes and crank it again, it will fire up like nothing was ever wrong. If I am in traffic and let the clutch out too fast and kill the engine, I’ll have to jump out and push the car off the road to keep from holding up traffic. This time, it started up within 2 minutes and I am back on the road again. It never stalls when it cranks up and is running. But if you cut it off, there is no guarantee that it will start when you crank it. It starts 80% of the time, as I do my daily run-arounds. At some point, it will be like cranking a car that’s out of fuel and won’t start. During one such no start condition, It started after I opened the gas cap and closed it. I concluded that pressure in the gas tank was the problem and left the gas cap on but loose enough to let air in. The car later did the same no start, even with gas cap loosely fitted. So it’s not that. Last weekend during one such no start condition, I took battery negative post out and pulled the vacuum line from the fuel line pressure regulator. I put them back and cranked the car and it fired up. I doubt if the pressure regulator is the problem. Someone says it might be the ignition control module. I thought that if it was the control module, the car can often die while in motion and even jump back to life before you roll to a complete stop? My Maxima used to do that back in ‘94. Sometimes I would get off work by 3:30 and it won’t start for over an hour. Call tow truck and when the driver gets in and try it, vroooom…..it will start. The control module are too expensive to replace without first confirming that it is the problem.

Does anyone know what can be wrong here? I am most interested in how to fix it. I searched the archive extensively, but because many people here don’t use a suited subject line when posting, it is hard to put your hand on what you are looking for. Example: body of the post is about ‘poor idling’ but the subject line is ‘Please help’. Would be nice if the subject mentioned something about idling, won’t it? Definitely make it easier for future retrieval.

Thanks for your help!

Default Re: No start condition - '91 accord

I did some more digging and found some info that is promising.
I am going to check all these suggestions first before swapping out the ignition control module. Below are some links I found on the topic. A SPECIAL THANKS TO THOSE CONTRIBUTORS.
