I'm getting ready to do my swap so I'v been doing alot of research the past few months and I'v heard good things about the B16a2 out of the 99-00 si into my 97 dx. But lately Iv been considering just buying an already built engine, possibly with a turbo on it. For a swap to be legal I know the engine has to be the same year or prior to your car. But I'm wondering how tough it is to put for example a built 92-95 si B16 into my car. Is the OBD the same? and would the wiring harness matchup? and would the response to this be the same as for an older B18? Mainly what it all comes down to is money and If i can get an older built engine for a little more than a stock newer engine, if it works, then why not. any advice is appriciated.

it has to be same year or NEWER...tech. older engine in the chassis is illegal.

Illegal yes, but hardly ever checked. Most emissions people wouldnt even notice a swapped engine.

I just ment that he had heard wrong if he thought it was same year or older.

I don't remember exactly when they stopped OBD0, but I think it was either '90 or '92.. :dunno:

OBD2 started in '96.

91 was the last year of obd0........ 92 was the first year of obd1

ok so bassically what im wondering is can you put an OBD1 swap into a car running OBD2? If so what are they complications?

need a new ecu or (if your ecu can run the new motor) an O2 simulator for the second O2 sensor...

but you get the ecu with most swaps anyway
