I'm not sure on the details, but I'm assuming it was a "guest" test drive done by maybe something on Speed Channel or something European. That would explain the lack of harnesses, since these are mostly productions vehicles.
As for the airbags, I'm guessing front-side only and since there was no extensive front end damage really to trigger them, they didn't blow.
