Check Engine light came on...
My RL has 86k and has been running very good (good performance, etc.) Could anyone give me some clues on what could it be??? The manual says this light comes on when the emission systems have a problem. Any suggestions? Has anyone has it happen before, considering my not-so-bad mileage?

Mine came on about a month ago and I only had 66k on my '96. took it to dealer and it turn out to be o2 sensor. It was repair under warrant because acure extented the emission warranty on the '95 - '97 acuras. I have the extended warranty w/ $50 deductible but I didn't have to pay that because acura's emission warrant paid for it and not my extended warranty. So I say go get it check out!

I could, but I first wanted to discover the "proper" way to get rid of the problem. Took my RL to AutoZone today to get it scanned for an error code and guess what - the guy was amazed that he could not find the ODB-II plug to hook up his computer. Do you guys know where that plug is on an RL? All vehicles from 1996 on are supposed to have this universal connector ... -??? Also, if it is emissions (o2 sensor or similar) do you guys think I could just ignore it and drive or this will damage the engine?

ufff..... thanks Dude...it's right there! next time it comes on I'll know what to tell the guys at AutoZone. The more I read about the check-engine light, the more it says that it is only hooked up to the emissions systems. So would this mean that the engine is still runing good, but only the exhaust is too bad for the environment? Is that why they even put that light there, or is it hooked up to some other components as well? Any clues?

here is the latest update : had the computer code scanned and it twice displayed error code NUBER 401 - which in RL is supposed to be the EGR VALVE INSUFFICIENT FLOW (so it is emissions after all...). Now here is my question: can I ignore this and just keep driving, or will this eventually harm the engine??? Any experts out there? I know what the EGR is for but maybe someone can tell me for sure? Thanks!
