Cheap & Easy extra 10-20 HP for a TL?
Greetings,
I'm leaving in an hour to pick up my new silver '03 TL. It's replacing my black '00 TL. I would have kept it but it is a bear to keep clean (hoping silver is easier) and I really do like the newer front ends on the TL).
I'm not at all mechanically inclined, nor do I know a great deal about aftermarket performance modification.
My question is, what are the most inexexpensive and easiest modifications/enhancements to get an extra 10 HP or so out of a stock TL? I want to keep things under 1K installed. I would have gotten a Type S, but couldn't justify the increase in insurance cost, and don't really need 260HP - really, the stock 225HP is plenty, but I just don't like the idea that there are Altimas and Maximas out there that have more under the hood.
Thanks for your suggestions!

CAI?
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is a CAI? Chip? Anyone have any experience with this particular product? Is the difference noticable?
Is the product itself $250? What is a garage likely to charge for the installation?

CAI = Cold Air Intake. You could go to www.comptechusa.com and check out their intake under the Accord page. I just ordered their cold air box for $240 shipped. If you don't want to do the install yourself, a shop will probably charge you 1/2 hour to an hour to do it.
You can also get the exhaust, about $550-$600. With those 2 modifications, your cost with installation will still be under $1000. The downside to this is it will add "noise" to your TL. Not bad noise, just intake noise and exhaust noise.
If you are willing to spend a little more, get the Comptech headers. A shop in Florida is selling them for $999 shipped, but it will get close to 20hp to the wheels for the regular TL. A shop will probably charge you 2 to 3 hours to install it. The headers will not add that much noise, you probably won't even notice the extra noise but you will definitely feel the extra power.

I agree, you should have got the type S. By the way, what do you mean its more to insure a type S? I never heard that before. I'm only paying $350 every six months for 100,000 / 300,000 coverage.
