Default Just bought 91 GS, how do I get the biggest bang for the buck?

I finally really made it to an Acura! Bought a 91 GS tonight, with 111K on the clock. I know I am going to do the timing belt, water pump, and the hoses, but when I get these thing replaced I want to have some work done to the engine. I am thinking it needs a hotter set of heads, intake, and exhaust.

My problem is that all my experience lies with German cars, I dont really know where to start with Acura's. I dont have to stick with all Acura/Honda parts, I am really not a purist at heart, but I want to end up with something as cost effective as possible and still be bullett proof for another 100K. This car is going to be my dailey driver, so all I am trying to do is get about 190-200 HP at the wheels, I would like to do this without forced induction, but if you guys/gals tell the best thing to do is strap on a Jackson SC, I will explore that route.

Botton line is, I want fun, realiability, and get the biggest bang for my buck.

Thanks for any help, I really appreciate you all helping out the new guy!

190-200 whp without some form of f/i is going to be tough with a b18a. you could put on a greddy turbo if thats all you're looking for.

What is more cost effective and reliable, turbo or SC?

If I were to use the forced induction, what upgrades would the rest of the engine require?

with a turbo, you can adjust the boost whenever you want, but with higher boost means higher risk of blowing something. with a jrsc, your boost is set at a certain psi. you'd have to change pullies to up the boost. which can be time consuming and more money. if you buy a complete turbo kit, it should come with everything you need to safely boost 8-9 psi.

What about converting the heads to a B16a, with the intake and fuel rail, and a nice open exhaust. This is what I was initially thinking, I guess I was wondering what kind of power this resulted in, and if there are any aftermarket parts that are as good as, but cheaper, than the actual Honda stuff?

going turbo would in the end be cheaper and make more power than an ls/vtec conversion done the right way.

a basic turbo kit can run from $2500-$3000 and power gains different depending on your tuning.

Turbo is cheaper and has more potential while superchargers have less potential and are more reliable(historically).

So I guess that no one here really likes the idea of rebuilding the engine with another set of heads, intake, fuel rail, and all the good stuff that comes along with that? I thought for sure that would have been the more cost effective way to do it.

Guess I will have to rethink what I want to do...
