you should be able to. . i did a lot of research into this myself and what you should do is do an engine flush first (depending on the product you just add it and run the vehicle for 5 minutes then drain the oil) - that will take out all of the old buildup - but i would really go with the 10w-30 as long as its not cold out. I switched my teg over a few months ago at about 82,000 and i've been running full synthetic mobil 1 10w-30 ever since.
some people will say it will make your car leak .. here's why it might- dino oil builds up over time and may cover some of your seals etc, if the build up gets too think the seals will dry out and shrink. If this is the case cleaning it out and exposing the seals to new oil may leak a little. . but supposedly the seals if they aren't to bad should absorb some oil and get thicker. However, if the seals are so dried out that they are cracked and you flush away that "oil seal" of sludged up oil you will get leaks. but i'd say 100,000 miles isn't that bad as long as the oil has been changed religiously. . good luck with that

I say stick to conventional dino oil. its cheaper, and I believe it was the synthetic mobil i was using that caused my motor to start burning oil...theres no proof of that, but i'll state this....
with 5w30 synthetic mobil, i was burning more than 1 quart every 1000 miles.
with 10w30 non syn Castrol (drive hard formula), it was up to 1500-1700 miles a quart.
now, with 10w40 non syn Castol (drive hard formula also), i've only burned less than half a quart, and i'm already at 1700 miles since the last change.
thats only my opinion though....its up to you Kha

Damn, you guys have been burning oil like nuts. I go usualy 7-8k between oil changes using Pennzoil 10-W30. I end up burning MAYBE 1/4 of a quart between these changes. However, the oil that was in my car when I got it from the dealership burned nearly a quart after 7000 miles. I've got a '98 LS with 133k on it.
By the way, what sort of oil filters do you guys use? I've had the best luck with Fram, and their grip filters are great because I know of no wrench that could ever get to that filter.

I use STP filters... made by the same people who make Mobil1 and K&N oil filters, but only 2.99
