Is it possible to turn a SOHC into a DOHC? or do you just have to have a new engine?

you can if you use a 1.5L bottom end and a dohc head off the 1st gen tegs.

woo too much trouble to do that and do it properly. lots of time and effort for something that as West says can be more easily changed with a swap
