im in NJ actually, but i didnt know of any here, ill probably end up getting a USDM car to replace mine, but its still nice to know some places. i found this one website thats pretty cheap, and they get good cars from time to time, but mostly they have trucks, but ive seen a modded R33 skyline go for $9000.. not sure how it works really, definatly not US based, i think theyre from UAE or something.

That's cool... I am thinking USDM myself if this doesn't work out. Of course a Skyline would rock, and has already been crash tested, so that might be viable (if it weren't for the $20k conversion costs!).

(now for the updates...)

Well I put a call into the entire NHTSA RI (registered importer) list in NY today. Only 2 of the 30+ people I called are willing to work with Japanese imports from Japan, most just do Canada. Even these guys aren't set up for it, so I may have to expand beyond NY for this. The EPA has a list of ICIs (international car importers) and one of them in in NY, one in NJ. I called the one in NJ and they're also looking into it, but say it could be $10-20k to convert it over (yikes!). I assume that includes some crash testing as necessary or SOMETHING major, it can't all be labor.

I also found out that the car, being RHD, will probably need to be crash tested if it hasn't already. If that's the case, this is definitely out of the question as I'd have to buy 2-3 cars instead of just 1 (!!). Aside from that, RHD is legal of course but then you have emissions (need an ECU and probably a replacement cat and/or any missing restrictions/sensors like the EGR valve, etc.) and only THEN can it even be eligible for street driving. I'm still workin on it though.

I found a guy, DC5 MASTER on Clubrsx.com that has successfully imported a 2002 ITR. He got it shipped over in parts, as a parts car basically, engine separated from the chassis. It's now put back together and roaming the streets. I'm going to get in touch with him ASAP to see what's up, how he managed this, etc. I'll let you know.

At the very least I will come out of this with more knowledge about importing from Japan than I ever wanted.

Well suffice it to say it's next to impossible to import this car and be 100% legal about it.

I'm now exploring the option of an EVO VII RS-II, but even that seems damn hard. And I don't wanna pay $45k through evolutionimports.com (the car bases at $27k in Japan). The saga continues...

Noted. Although, I think that if they want to import an EVO VII then they'll also want to beat evolutionimports.com pricing, no?

We'll see, I'll call em today.

Last time I checked, Motorex deals exclusively in importing and legalizing the Nissan Skyline GT-R (or any other model of Skyline). The explicitly state that they do not have plans as of yet to import other car models.
