Honda Recalling All 2000-2004 TL's and 2001-2003 CL's

My service advisor got an e-mail in his inbox this morning and shared the news with me.

A month after announcing the recall on the MDX, they're now doing the TL's and CL's. This is a HUGE recall when you put it into persepctive, I know my work will be flooded, as the MDX's are pretty overwhelming as is.

Basically they examine the internals of the transmission to look for internal damage caused by heat. If is damaged, they replace the transmission. If not, they install a cooling line.

This also effects the 2002+ Odyssey's, 2002+ Pilots and 2003+ Accord V6 automatics.

I'll do some research on this and see if we can get something up in front.

Hmmm, it sounds like an email sent out as a result of the voluntary recall announced back on the 29th of June.

I got my 2004 TL this May, and it started to show some symptoms : every morning once a small 'click' in 1st or 2nd gear and that is it, no problems all day after that.
Took the car in to the dealer, but they can not re-produce it. The dealer claim that my transmission is not (should not be) affected.
So, how many of 2004 TL are affected ?
Had good feeling on Acura before, but now I am not too sure with all these transmission recalls.
Any help/comments, appreciated.

I wouldn't worry if I were you. I personally haven't heard of any 04TLs having tranny problems.

Check out Acura.com

You should check on Acura.com if your car is included in the recall or not.

i have an 03 CLS and it hasnt had any major problems... i sometimes get hard downdshifts.. but havent in awhile and thats usally when the car is cold in the moring...

is this recall related to the "oil jet" fix that they are putting on the trannys for a fix..

i have heard that the fix isnt working... alot of CL owners after the fix ended up having to replace the trannys.. i am waiting until i see some serious symptoms to followup on the recall..

please keep us posted if anything else is documented..

More Recalls

They need to recall everything. My tranny is shot and I've heard another guy from Michigan at vtec.net have the same problem. I've got an 05 TL and he has an 04 TL and we both have gotten the car stuck in second gear on the highway. That's a dangerous thing for something like that to happen, can be just as dangerous as a tire blowing out. Could Acura be the next Ford Exploder?

They recall should go back to at least 99 for the CL's as mine went last year and I baby my car. It's EXTREMELY dangerous as mine went in between Ocala and Jacksonville last year, kept slipping in and out of gear.

I have an 04 TL with almost 50,000 miles and haven't had any problems with the tranny or anything else, except the dealer service dept. So not all TL's are problem prone.

04 Tl

I have an 04 TL and already had to replace the syncros. After that it was a smooth ride until a few weeks ago... It somtimes sticks in gear, and it is hard to switch gears. Does anybody know what can be wrong?

Anyone know the early warning signs of this? I am going tomorrow to pick up an 03 CLS. Per the owner the tranny was replaced at about 36k miles, car has about 60k on it right now. Any other known issues with these cars?

You can simply ask the dealer you purchased from to do a VIN check and see if there are any outstanding recalls.

I've had my TL since May of 1999 and I've never had a problem with anything.....been enjoying it for over 6 years now.

they need to do something, got 01cl-s auto, im on tranny #3, the early signs are the VSA lights flashing and staying on and the check engine light and of coarse the irratic shifting, but since they extended the warranty till 100k miles its not soo bad...but it still blows

Hello, I've 2001 tl - went to get it fix after the recall, but now it just broke down and left me on the middle of the road. Took it to the dealiership and they indicated the transmission needs to be replace. They will replace with a warranty of 3/36000. The transmission will be remanufactured, not rebuilt - is there really a difference between these two? Does anybody know what my options are at this point? I just do not feel comfortable with a remanufactured tranny. Any suggestions?

You know, most cars would have at least one recall. As for the 20K checkup, just change your own oil and check/top off your own fluid.

For those who are particularly worried about your transmission, I'd suggest the following:

Since the transmission failure is basically an overheating issue, if you drive aggressively, are seemingly prone to transmission failures, or just want peace of mind, Comptech offers a transmission cooler kit that you can buy. It's normally to be installed with their supercharger but I bet this would go along way compared to any lame oil line Acura is installing.

And fact: Honda's automatics have never been good.

2004 Tl

The road noise is getting loud enough that I may be headed toward my 4th set of tires with only 66k. Will try new struts before tires. Any info on tires cupping prematurely on 2004 TLs?
