Nov 2003: Found my project car sitting in the weeds at the back of our used car lot. 1991 Civic Std with a blown engine. The original plan was to build a street car that could be driven to the race track. That changed though, now it's more of a race car that gets driven on the street.

Oct 2004:
The original setup. D16Z6, eagle rods, srp pistons, block guard, t3t04e 60 trim. The way I notched the block.




The old motor coming out, the new one going in. (in no particular order) The d15b2 intake and exhaust looks odd on a z6, just ran it like that to get it through e-check. The vice grips were the only thing holding the distributor on for the testing.

Getting rid of all the extra, unneeded stuff. The dash that goes back in will just be a shell.



Taking several chopped up harnesses from work this is my version of a obd0-obd1, dpfi-mpfi, vtec conversion harness.

Jul 2005:
Making progress, started it for the first time on mpfi.



Aug 2005:
My laptop started acting weird evertime I plugged it into the cig lighter. Expecting it to be a voltage problem I checked the battery. 19.3 volts my meter said!!! No wonder, made in Cincinnati, nothing good can come from there.



OBX cam gear. The thing is solid as a rock.

It started out that way, upgrading the busted parts has made it expensive.

Oct 2005:
26psi, stock 4-speed trans, 100+mph tire spin.

Got a slightly used 1990 Si transmission cheap. I've seen a lot of bad input shaft bearings, but none like this.


Added an obx lsd while I was in there.

Feb 2006:
The first gauge setup, had to change it for the cage.


A buddy gave me a sticker for it.

Apr 2006:
Very first run at the drag strip. street tires, 22 psi. 13.2@124
No timeslip, didn't print for some reason. 2jznick got the run on video though.

Jun 2006:
Busted pedal bracket, welded a plate to the side of it.

Sept 2006:
First runs on slicks. Spinning through 3rd, 22x13.

At this point there was about $4500 in the whole car.

Winter 2006-2007:
Fresh air/ram air intake made from 4" dryer duct.









Jegs 10 point roll cage.



Had to relocate my gauges, the pillar pods dont fit with the cage.

Mar 2007:
24.5x8.5 slicks: The breaking of shit has commenced.
Busted flange.


Rewelded the flange and ditched the exhaust system. Always coasted past the cops anyway.


Busted both axles and the clutch all in one expensive run down the track.


And it still ran quicker than most of the cars there.


Apr 2007:
Yay, I didn't bust anything. Boo, the first half of the track was slippery, then it started raining.

Went to the track today to make some low boost runs and work on launching. Felt great!!!

The things a blast to drive. I did most of the work myself about 1/2 hour at a time in the evenings after work.

this is what im hoping i can get my civic to do when im done. I was it to be a daliy driver but also be able to do Drag/Road course racing also. Props to you. Hows that OBX LSD working out? Is it the first versions of them that like to eat axles??? Where did u get the cage from? I would suppose JEGs but i wasn't sure.

The lsd works great, took a little bit of work to install though. Yea, it's a jegs cage, it was a lot of work to install.

One question about the cage, when you installed the cage how did u weld up the Main hoop with the Halo?? Did u just lean it forward or did u drill holes in the floor and then covered them up with the base plates??? One thing a guy told me at VIR when i went a couple of weekend ago, He had a 92 hatch, he put an "X" in the rear bars and he said it made a Huge difference. It could be different for you b/c it seems like you do more Drag than road race, but it was some information i learned that i thought you might appreciate.

Had just enough room to weld em where they sit. The ends of the halo were bent down slightly to give extra room. (I guess that's why they made em that way.)

there's a guy here locaclly running a k20 rsx w/ 798 whp. if he can hit that w/ 2.0 i should be able to hit a lot more.

Very slick whip! Thats what I call backyard mechanics. LOL I was reading the comments on the vid you posted online, and people think you've spent like 10k on that motor. Little do they know its just a turbo and a good tune on a simple d series engine lol. Drag racing isn't my thing, but I love seeing succesfull builds like this.

Just fabbed up a downpipe for a holset hx35, going to swap over to it later in the summer. (dont know if it will work or not)

Got some adjustable coilovers for it too, hope to get down teh first half of the track a little better.
