the only vtec engine i've owned that i knew drank lots of oil was my 94 accord ex (though the car was abused and not maintained properly before I bought it used)...my old gsr didn't drink oil and neither does our civic ex (statements such as vtec consumes oil is also an overgeneralization like turbos die at 100k)...only when a vtec engine gets older does the possiblity happen from hard driving (but the good part i was mentioning is that once oil pressure is low, vtec will not engage; where as when a turbo gets older and the oil starts to cake, it will always run no matter the situation...i've seen some pretty beat up bearing housings where the turbo self destructed)...then add to the fact that turbo engines also will consume oil when they get older

but you are right both have advantages and disadvantages...choose your poison

the point that vtec can shut off and no type of forced induction outside manual input (turning down boost manually or not engaging NO2) can do such a thing is a benefit that only variable valve timing enhanced engines have
