throttle body CLEAN

just cleaned my throttle body today for my 6gen accord

You will need:
-Screw driver
-1 can of Sea Foam
-a Can
-a baseter tube or funnle tube
-a straw (from a sports bottle)

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...1/fb9085d4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/4fbf8075.jpg
This is the engine bay
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/12cc8f93.jpg
Your throttle body is connected to your intake

you want to remove it by using your screw driver, then you will stick the straw into the throttle body plate inside
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/e9e40ab9.jpg

It should look like that with the intake removed
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/aa426203.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/23fdec60.jpg
you can stick the tube in to the TB

It should look something like this, you can pour the Seafoam into the funnel slowly 1/3 of the can your engine should choke and cut off you'll also see smoke coming out of ur exhast, once you finish pouring the SF into the intake let your car set for 5mins then start your car and go for a ride WOT.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/IMG_0082.jpg
start your engine and step on the gas a little
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...5/fb9086aa.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/IMG_0080.jpg
POOF a shit load of smoke will come out
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...3/fb9086f6.jpg
Time for you to get in to your car and go WOT around the block maybe even a trip on the freeway.

Do this a couple of times

Sorry for asking a noob question but where is that throttle body plate in the pix? If it'snot visible can u post a better pix of it.

b12uceHuy 07-26-2003 10:03 PM

the trottle plate is INSIDE the throttle body you have to use your finger and push the straw in, its difficult to take a picture of it. Looks just like a carbator but sideways.

kaliraver69 07-26-2003 10:13 PM

Hmmm that kinda helps. Oh well I just don't know how do you get that place in the first place. Do you have to remove the intake or what?

great idea with the straw, for some reason i didnt think of that, and just used a turkey baster to inject it in, while pulling a little on the throttle cable, spilled a lot of shit all down in my engine compartment, hope it doesnt hurt anything ;)

hmm I've been trying to find that Sea Foam but my local NAPA store doesn't carry it!

carbon-vtec 08-07-2003 09:36 AM

i just use a can of stp intake and throttle body cleaner from autozone

uclaccord 09-19-2003 10:13 AM

how exactly would sea foam clean this all up...never heard of sea foam

xplode 09-22-2003 04:38 PM

your car was off and warmed up when you did it? or did u let it go on a cold engine, and also... idd you let it sit 5 mins or just hook it back up and go/

b12uceHuy 09-24-2003 10:21 PM

my car was on when i did it and the engine was COLD... after i pure 1/3 of the bottle in to the TB i turned off the engine. Let it set fo 5-6 mins then took a spin around the block then into the street WOT.

b12uceHuy 09-24-2003 10:24 PM

I did my friends 94 accord and when I place the straw into the TB plate it rev the engine to high so what we did was inject the sea foam then start the engine (so the liquid would be sucked into the TB) did that 8 times, then let it sit for 5-6mins. Took a spin on the freeway WOT. could be done both ways

*** just dont pour it liquid all at once into the TB or you'll hydo lock your engine ***
take your time

I agree on the bottle from autozone...

Samson 10-01-2003 11:51 PM

i did this with the STP spray... and my car now has an idle surging problem... dont ask me what caused it... everything is installed correctly. :(

I just cleaned my TB again this weekend and updated with new pictures.

avangusva 12-25-2006 01:03 PM

Why/how does this help the car?

lkailburn 12-25-2006 01:27 PM

i know this is an old post but since its already back form the dead:

why is this thread called "How to clean your throttle body"? this method doesn't clean your throttle body. cleaning your throttle body would involve removing it, and disasembling the plate and everything to clean out any build up that might cause a sticky tb plate etc

this method cleans the intake manifold and combustion chamber.

merry xmas everyone

Why wouldn't you?? The sea foam burns off the carbon build up and such improving your cars ability to breath and burn the fuel better.

nonbox 10-10-2007 06:49 PM

Samson, an idle problem is usually caused by a dirty or bad IACV.

How long does it take to get rid of all the smoke from the exhaust?

Do you keep the car on when you are pouring in the seafoam?

94AccordSedanEX 01-17-2008 01:05 PM

Anybody have DIY instructions for an 00 EX V6?

gtyouth 02-11-2008 10:10 AM

I just cleaned my car's throttle body using Deep Creep.
I noticed that the engine oil is a little (blacker) darker.
Do i need to change engine oil?
