Backseat-??lbs Spare tire-bout 20-30lbs not too much else, unless u really want to gut the inside of your car-that means removing everything except the driver's seat and dash.
U could also do body panel upgrades, removing the hood and replacing w/ a carbon fiber or fiberglass hood; replacing fenders, and replacing bumpers. Those things can lower your weight. Oh, and of course dieting:). |
hmm on a 89 hatchy... take everything out of the interior -jack...spare tire... back seats.. passenger seat... LIKE HE SAID^ carbon fiber anything possible... u can carbon fiber your rear hatch...but dont get fiberglass its to sensitive will break easy... unless u really want it.. not worth it though... do a swap.. get rid of ur ac pump and ur smogging stuff... all i can think of off the top of my head... good luck
|
i dont mean carbon fiber your whole car... lol i just mean if u want to replace it... and if it looks good replace w/ carbon fiber... hatchys are light as is they weigh about 2700 u can get a crx they weigh 2450 w/ nothing taken out straight stock...

there are lots of avenues you can take: buy an 88 crx HF and put your engine tranny in there (have to swap out the front spindles too) - the HF is lighter and the 88 doesn't have the side impact beam in the doors - this thing stock weighs in at 2100lbs
gut your car: interior, remove power anything (convert to manual windows / door locks), remove the entire a/c system, remove the radio & speakers, sound deadening, put on a ss header and remove the iron exhaust manifold this is just some simple yet cheap tips - you can get expensive and reduce the safety of your car by getting buying cf hood, doors, fenders, plexiglass windows, removing the bumper impact structure and fabricating mounts for the bumper covers... |
One trick autocrossers and bicycle racers use is to remove weight from rotating parts (tires and wheels). Removing one ounce from a rotating part is the same as removing 3 ounces from a non-rotating part.
Be careful when using thin side-wall racing tires (they damage much more easily than normal street tires) for street applications. |

Take out everything non-critical to proper functioning.
|
that's easy...my 944 is gutted (no a/c, heater, sound deadening, even headlights will be removed but kept at an option in case of races that require their use - mainly foggy/rainy days)
