Installing a tach in a 92-95 civic...

This is a write up of how i installed my sunpro supertach II.

First, get all of your matierials together

You will need:

-Screwdriver or other installation tools
-screws or whatever you intend to mount tach with
-wire strippers/crimpers
-wire splice connectors ( I used t-connectors)
-a little time
-tach

Most tachs have similar wiring:

Green-Signal
Red-power to tach
Black-ground
White-power for light

1. Mount the tach
-Mount the tach somwhere where it is easily visible and does not interfere with driver's sight of the road. I have seen them mounted all over the place, but most like it on the dash on the driver's side next to the windsheild corner. I mounted mine on the passenger side of the top of the steering column. Make sure that you check for clearance of wires/switches. Make sure that you also mount it solid, so that it doesn't wiggle or vibrate.

2. Wire the tach in
-In the 92-95 civics, you will need to connect the signal wire (green) to the rpm signal wire to the ecu (blue). run the wire through a grommet in the firewall, and run it back up and thre is a block of wires right under the driver's side bottom corner of the winshield. Look for the Baby Blue wire and splice the green and the blue together.

For the Ground wire, you can ground it almost anywhere on the body, or any good ground under the dash, such as under a screw or bolt attached to a metal panel or to the firewall. use crimp on connectors that go around the underside of the head of the screw/bolt to ensure a good connection.

Find a power source for the tach now. You will need to find a "key on" power source to tap into like the windshield wipers. I don't remember what color the wire was...

Now its time to power the backlight. I spliced mine into the dimmer switch, which was a red wire with a black stripe. this will ensure that the backlight comes on with the lights, and not until.

Now test it to ensure that it works...

Enjoy!

Does anyone else see anything that i need to add/leave out, besides pictures?

-Props to by buddy Zion for helping me with it
