what's the best way to remove pinstriping?
 

My Accord has factory pinstripes and I'm really not a fan of them. Like the title says, what's the best way to get these off? Or is it even worthwhile to do it? It's a '94, so I don't know if there'll be a noticeable difference in paint color when I pull them off. :thinking:

Easy to do, you have to heat them up and just peel it off with your fingernail.
For heating, you can use a hair dryer.
Be careful that it's not a different color underneath the stripes.

a different color as in the car may have been resprayed or a different color due to the paint having been covered all these years? will there be a residue left on the paint after i peel it off?

Yeah under the stripes it may look a little newer. Why don't you try this, peel a little piece off out the back and see what color is underneath and if you like it or not. Put it back on if you don't, continue if you do.

You should be able to tell before you even take the pinstripe off, just by looking at the rest of the paint, if it looks even slightly faded, 9 times out of 10 the paint under the pinstripes is going to not be, unless car has been resprayed and those are new pinstripes.

The best way to get rid of pinstripes, the way that car dealerships and auto body shops do it is to buy a rubber wheel attachment for a drill, although it does cost about 10 bucks, it will be alot easier especially if you don't have nails like me. and don't leave it spinning in one spot too long or you could burn the clear coat off

the paint should be the same colour (if the car hasn't been repainted or anything) as they apply the pin-stripes over the paint.

Depending on how the car has been cared for, there shouldn't be too noticeable a difference, however if the finish wasn't regularly waxed and protected there could be some fading due to oxidization, so the paint where the pinstripes were will indeed look newer.

If this is the case,
You can buy a pre-wax cleaner which will remove oxidization.. Do the entire car with the cleaner, then re-wax the car afterwards and it should all blend together nicely.
