You'll probably get a lot of opinions on this, so here's mine:

All of my cars have high mileage and are stock, I use Walmart regular dino oil in all of them. I just change it as close to 3,000 miles as possible.

None of my cars burn oil. Regular oil in the proper weight, changed at the correct interval is fine for a daily driver.

I know people who run Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic and are happy

I use honda dealer oil. just hit 100k miles and never has burn oil.

I'll second the Valvoline MaxLife. My Accord has 217K on it and I don't have any problems with oil burning.

I ran up to 190K on my 93 accord. I never used anything special in it, but changed it every 3-4K miles. Mostly bought cheap stuff, Chevron, Walmart, etc. at the specified weight. Didn't burn oil when I sold it.

correct grade and weight dino oil should work fine.

I'd use normal oil unless there's any specific issues like burning oil or low oil pressure.

im using elf oil it works well, but my 94 accord only has 88,xxx miles on it.

Hi guys! I just recently change my engine oil + oil filter. I used CASTROL EDGE 0W-30. Is this Castrol Oil any good for my Accord with 75,000 mileage? Thnaks.

wedley2 07-15-2007 04:16 AM

castrol GTX is one of thr better dino oils out there. i only use that in my family's cars...

Thanks for the reply. May I ask, how often do you change your engine oil and its filter? Cheers.

best oil for 94

Hey if you are not using synthetic by now it is too late to change. You will do all sorts of engine damage if you change this late in the game. Just make sure you use the grade exactly as specified on your engine and change it and the filter religiously every 3000 miles or every 3 months which ever comes first. If you are using the same brand for the last 3 oil changes use the same brand just make sure if the engine says 10-30 then you use 10-30 if your engine says 10-40 then use 10-40 if the engine says 5-30 you know what to do by now. The above applys if you are not burning oil. There are additives you can use if you are already burning oil. By the 212,000 on a 94 is not high mileage its just beyond the breakin stage. I know people with hondas properly maintained with 600,000 miles on it and getting ready for a new car due to body rust and the engines are still good.

This is a really old thread. I dont know why the hell someone brings this stuff back. But just to voice an opinion. Valvoline maxlife non synthetic is best in old engines.
