What file is missing?

Also,

When xp doesnt boot up and tells you that "following file is mising or corrupt" just put your winxp cd in, reboot, startup recovery console and type chkdsk C: /r . This will start Chkdsk and after checking your drive and fixing errors you reboot and everything should be fine.

OR if that doesn't work

Put in your windows CD, go to install, NOT repair. after the license agreement, then go to repair. This should reinstall all of the windows files, but keep your settings. It is definitely there, and there's no reason this shouldnt work.

Yea if you can find a copy of XP, if you ask in "The Basement" i'm sure someone in your area might have one.
