I have no problem with gay/lesbian couples getting married. Many of those marriages would be more legit and longer lasting than some of us heteros have managed. I also, in the past, haven't had a problem with them just being allowed the same rights under a different name.
That being said, there's no question that a big portion of those against it, feel that way for religious purposes. I was raised Christian, have read the bible many times, and that argument is just total crap. If you want to follow the teachings of Jesus, do it correctly. If there's a Hell, then there is a very special place there for hypocritical bigots who consider themselves Christians of any type and yet have, and readily show it, nothing but hate for a group of people simply because they were born different from themselves.
If you are OK with civil unions for gay couples, there's no logical reason IMO to be strongly against gay marriage. People really don't have an excuse nowadays for being so ignorant on issues like homosexuality.

Watch this video by Keith Olberman, I think he pretty much summarizes up what everyone wishes they could express:

Because when a referendum is put to vote through signature petitions, the constitutionality is not decided there (unless individual voters choose to think about that). When it's voted upon, the check still doesn't occur. The constitutionality check occurs when it's opposed in court and when it's confronted as a legal matter.

Shake n Bake!
lololz
On a serious note, as long as the gays (sounds like a disease) don't bother me, then whatever.
