Default Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series - street legal F1 pace car

The new BMW M3 may be eagerly awaited, but Munich's rivals have a few tricks up their sleeves to keep the new V8-powered coupe honest. Among them is the Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series debuting at New York.

Essentially a road-going version of Mercedes-Benz's F1 pace car, this muscle-bound two-door packs a 500-hp version of the German carmaker's 6.2-liter V8 engine and is capable of 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph.

BMW will also need to have its game face on to handle Audi's anticipated RS5, based on the new S5 revealed at the Geneva motor show in March. The RS5 is expected to use the same drivetrain as the existing RS4, a 4.2-liter V8 producing an M3-equaling 420 hp. And that's saying nothing of the new Lexus IS 500F, with a 5.0-liter V8 good for more than 400 hp.

Here's more info on the car:

http://www.leftlanenews.com/2008-mer...-revealed.html

It gets a much needed LSD and touches of weight reduction. The regular CLK63 also has the same power figures but doesn't have the same acceleration figures.

Bottom line is though ... this thing better costs south of 100K. Otherwise GT3 here I come.
