2003 MDX Water Pump

hi all, i read from http://www.lemonauto.com/complaints/acura/mdx.htm that for this model yr there is a possible water pump defect that may cause timing belt damage - is inspection/repair of this fully covered by honda even for subsequent owner

also, does it make sense that in my search to buy an suv i find that the mdx is cheaper or same price as a pilot of same yr and mileage

i know that mdx existed a couple yrs earlier than pilot, but it still seems odd...
