99 RL key fob transmitter disabled by toddler...need help!

My toddler was playing with the key fob transmitter for my '99 3.5 RL. He did not get it wet or slam it to the ground, just pushed the buttons a zillion times. When I walked out to the car later, the Lock, Unlock, and Trunk buttons did not work. I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in as an attempt to "reset" the transmitter, but it did nothing and the red LED stays on constantly since I did that.

I've been snooping around the internet looking at replacement key fobs, but I'm not convinced that's the problem. I think the one I have will still work if I can just reset it to the original settings somehow. Any tips or advice? I really, really, really do not want to take this to the dealer to be fixed, in fact I'd rather just manually lock/unlock the car for the rest of its life.
