Default VTEC controler stupid question

This might seem dumb, but why would I want a vtec controler with my close ration tranny; ie. If I shift at 7700 rpm, it only drops like 800 rpm's (exept going from 1st to 2nd) therefore I remain in vtec. So does a vtec controller only help launching and in first gear or is there something else that it does that I don't know?

purpose of a vtec controller is to have the ability to change your vtec x-over and control your fuel settings.
