92 LS Starts Then Shuts Off

I have a 92 LS that has been running fine. The other day I parked it but when I tried to start it the next day it fired up and then sputtered and shut off. I checked the ECU code and am getting a code 20 (ELD). I also notice a strong fuel smell after trying to start it. I swapped out the ECU with a known good one and there was no change. If I push the gas pedal after starting it I can get it to stay running for a bit but the engine acts as though it is misfiring or running very rich. Any help would be appreciated.

The ELD is built into the fuse box, I've never heard of it going bad before. I would get that checked out first.

hmm sounds similar to a crankshaft fluctuation sensor going out, but i dont think ur 92 LS even has one of those.

Could it be a timing issue? It tries to start and then backfires and dies.

Edit: Ok I cleared the ECU code 20 but still will not stay started. I cleaned thw IAC and FITV but still no go. I then pulled the spark plugs and the #2 and #4 plugs are wet with gas. I just installed a new coil and ignitor about 2 months ago so I'm pretty sure neither of them are at fault. Dist cap and rotor maybe? Anybody?

Out of curiosity i had to check my chilton's manual for a #20 code. Strangely enough it doesnt show a 20, of course the book also says if it shows a code not on the list, verify it, if you get the same code, replace ecu. Obviously that problem was taken care of. It does say that a 21 is the spool solenoid valve, though i may be no help at all....
