do the 1997 integra ls brake rotors need to be pressed on???

hello again, after having a tl, cl and rl, we have an integra to drive instead of the 4runner which is sitting in the garage.

we had a 95 accord that need to have the rotors pressed on and i am concerned about the brakes in this car. I know it is a stupid question, but before i dig into each corner and spend time under there, i need to know.

    thanks

No, they are not pressed on. Held in by two screws only.

Those 2 screws are mainly for the initial assembly at the plant. You can use an impact driver to get them out (or douse them with PB or WD40 + screw driver), but don't even bother putting them back in. Your wheel and lugs hold the rotor in place, not those screws.

An impact screwdriver is not necessary. A fat cross tip works just fine. Not a narrow one, but one that is big enough to fill the volume of the screw. Most screw tips sets will have one. I've worked on several honda's/acura's brakes and this is what I have always done.

Oh yeah, of course...but a common misconception is that you have to fish out an impact screwdriver to get those screws off, when in actuality a fat cross tip will do the trick with the twist of a wrist & a push.

yeah only certain accords have trapped rotors that require excessive labor.

Personally, I wouldn't risk stripping those pesky impact screws when an impact driver can be rented for a few dollars.

Its a handy tool if you work on cars anyway, I bought mine at sears for 30$. It saved my life several times, before I had air tools.

As nonessential as those stupid screws are....if you should strip them, just drill the heads out.

If you end up stripping the heads of the screws just drill the heads right off, I never reuse those things. It only takes a whole 30 seconds of drilling and the heads are gone.

Maybe you haven't come across ones that have been on there for a while (mine was 7 years). It had a slight rust on there, too. I first used a philips head screwdriver, but they would not budge. I tried to twist, hammer the driver + twist, PB Blaster then hammer + twist, but none worked. $10 impact driver solved that problem.

i broke my impact driver bits on my car yesterday.

no way in hell NOT using an impact driver (regular screwdriver) would have gotten them out.

i eventualy had to drill the heads out.

once i did that, the rotors were pretty stuck on the hub. it took a good number of whacks with a BFH to knock em loose.

yes, i tried using a bolt in the threaded holes to pop em off, but that didnt work either.

    fun times.
