when im driving down the road, there is a loud humming noise coming from the rear, what would cause that noise and how much would it cost to fix? i think its my u joint but i could be wrong at least i think its called a u joint....

screwed
could be a wheel bearing. if it gets louder and vibrates the car more with speed its likely a wheel bearing on its way out.

If it gets louder as wheel rpm increases, then yeah, it's probably the wheel bearing. If the noise is at it's loudest when accelerating and/or turning, it could be a dying CV joint.

I got worms.
Have a shop check your wheel bearing, more than likely the problem.
