Shifting RPMS
Hey, just wondering what RPM you guys shift gears at. Not going all out, but just normal daily driving.
Usually I do
1st - 2nd : 3500-4000
2nd - 3rd : 3500-4000
3rd - 4th : 3000-3500
4th - 5th : 3000-3500
interested to see what other peoples take on this is, I don't know if rev too much or not enough or what, but this seems to work pretty good for me.

thats about what i do... my area is a lot of hills and a lot of the time i can get 3/4 of the way to my destination w/o being in gear. but when i am....
accelleration 6000 - 6500
cruising/chilling 2500 - 3000
warming up 1500 - 2000 w/ little or no throttle

you shouldn't upshift at 2000, EVER. too low, you're lugging. i shift around 4 for general driving, right at 3 if i'm trying to save gas, and once in a while, i'll kick into 2nd and lug for a second cuz i'm too lazy to go down to 1st. don't ever be afraid to rev it. honda motors LOVE revs. as long as you keep fresh motor oil in it, and keep it topped off, you can bounce off the rev-limiter all you want. just make sure it's warmed up first.

I shift at 3500 rpm when cold and 4500 rpm when warmed up and accelerating normally when warmed up. I rarely take it into vtec unless I want to accelerate a little faster, but the throttle position rarely goes more than 50%. Throttle position will affect your gas mileage more than shifting rpm, so if you need the extra acceleration, it won't hurt to drag it out a thousand rpm more.

this is sorta on topic, but at the same time sorta off.... ive read before that an ls (b18b) makes its peak power at about 5500, and then starts to drop off. does this mean that under hard acceleration that you shouldnt let it rev to the redline because theres no more power up there, and rather shift somewhere closer to 5500-6000? i read this on jackson supercharger's website just looking into it out of sheer curiosity and it showed a dyno chart of a stock ls where power was made up until that 5500 figure and then trailed off pretty abruptly, whereas if your ls was equipped with a "jackson racing superchager" it would make its peak power of 160whp at 5500 and hold it right up until 8 grand, creating more area under the curve and increasing overall capability of the car....blah blah blah. not that im interested in buying into this, but im just wondering where one would shift to get the most out of the powerband and put the most power available to the ground as fast as possible (in a more or less stock set up).

It makes peak horsepower at redline and peak torque at 5500, so that when you shift out of a gear at redline, it would put you in the area of the powerband with the maximum torque.
For power, shifting at redline will get you the best performance, but your gas mileage will greatly reflect that. A moderate shift at 4-5k would give you a nice medium between full on performance and good gas mileage.

ooooooooooohhhh. alright i got it now. i know it'll kill fuel economy, i was just interested to know for track days sake, being that a relatively stock integra is going to need to make the most of what its got just to be a "momentum car" and attempt to keep up with the big guns (which i still wont be able to do, but its all good, im still learning).

it's not all about power on the racetrack. the brand new honda fit has a faster slalom time than a Z06 corvette by 7 mph. (even though slalom is autoX)

this is not done during "accelleration" this is done during the commute to work where the first part is downhill. so usually there is little to no throttle and im just letting it idle as it's pulled down the hill

I shift between 3000 & 4500 for general driving. When im having fun, i shift around 7000. But NEVER higher than 5000 in first. --Thats just me.

Now im wondering if I'm shifting too soon. I shift between 2500-3000 because I am trying to conserve my gas. I read on my girl's 2006 RSX manual that "regular" driving or shifting is about 2500 revolutions.

3000 is ok, unless you're going up a hill. then you're gonna lug it. these motors like to revved, that's just the way they are. don't be afraid to wind it up if you need some power. one of my buddies pointed out that you have to let the engine get to it's peak efficiency. at the time i was shifting at 2500 cuz i was broke. i started shifting at 3500 or 4000 instead, and my gas mileage improved. go figure, i guess he was right.
