    Stage 3 weight reduction, yo!

I removed my A/C today in preparation for installing my 2 10" slim fans where the A/C condenser was. The A/C didn't work very well...it would be warm at idle and make a weird noise when in motion. I never used it, so I figured I would clean up the engine bay a bit.

I got ripped off getting my system evacuated this morning. Shouldn't they not charge you anything to prevent you from venting it to the atmosphere like you shouldn't do? If I would have known it was going to cost $60, I would have just vented it. I am glad I got it evacuated because there was a little left in the piping and it stunk.

Anyway, it was probably the most fun I have had working on the car. I love ripping shit out with no intention on putting it back in. It took 2 hours to get everything but the evaporator (which I am going to leave because it isn't in the engine bay).

Total weight savings: 28.8 lbs. That is mad stage 3 weight reduction, yo.

    After:

    All the junk:

BTW, none of the components are for sale. They are all in a dumpster about a mile from my house.

Shipping would have been insane. I suspect one of the components was bad, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

Who needs another fan? Now that you have all that room, throw a bigger turbo on there.

I am seriously tempted to upgrade to a real manifold, t3/t4 with breathing room, an external wastegate, and a 2.5" downpipe exit.

Sure looks like you got room for a bigger turbo to me. =P 30 lbs is a decent amount for something you're not using anyway. Looking good.

Well, if they quote you $60 like they charged me for seriously 30 minutes of the easiest labor known to man, it may just be more tempting to poison the whales and kill the seals and vent it. I am glad I did the right thing, though.

Thank you. Bigger turbo will be far in the future, but at least I know I have room for one.

You are sick of it because you live less than 5 miles away from me and still haven't seen it.

I would use my ac more often when hot if:
    1. It didn't rob me of hp, cause I believe it does.
    2. It didn't use more gas.
    3. It didn't make me want to take a nap while driving.

For me I just use the 2-60 method to keep cool. 2 windows down at 60mph.

haha.. that doesn't work when it's 90+ out.

a/c is a bit weak in the integra, but i can't live without it. i'm spoiled, i suppose.

It isn't all that bad. I am just used to it...and plus I will be moving to a milder climate in August, so A/C would probably never be used. The heater, though...I would die if that stopped working.

The A/C sucked power like crazy when it was on because I believe the compressor was bad. It was really unlike any other A/C equipped car I have ever ridden in. Plus the AFR at idle spiked up to 18-19:1 when the A/C was running, so I can't imagine how lean it got when it was in motion. There was something seriously wrong with my A/C.

I don't really want to get rid of the evaporator since weight reduction isn't my purpose for pulling the A/C out. That $40 could be spent on something way more useful. I want to keep the button there so in the summer, I can psyche out people that don't know I don't have A/C when they press the button and it does nothing.

    I agree.

Just imagine taking a girl on a first date in the middle of July with a car with leather seats. That'll be your last date with her.

Just imagine going to a wedding wearing a suit in the middle of July with a car with leather seats.

Kind of hard to "cool off" with the windows down in stop and go traffic.

Running the A/C takes away horsepower? Turn the A/C off when racing.

Running the A/C decreases fuel economy? Spending a lot of money on mods wasn't a concern when it came to spending money. Just drink one less beer at the bar or get one less lap dance to save some money.

I never understood why people would remove the A/C in a daily driver. If it's a "race car" only, then yeah, sure... take it out to lighten up the car. Or just build a car that can go fast enough so that you don't have to put the car on a diet to make it go fast. But that's just me. My 770 rwhp Firebird Formula (3700 pounds) still has the A/C, cruise control, a sub, amp, full stock interior, etc. It's still a street car by every sense of the word. But once again... that's me. To each his own I guess. Then again.. I did the ultimate weight reduction mod... my left kidney was removed 4 years ago as a donation to my brother. So I'm 6 to 8 pounds lighter.

i have my full a/c in my car but i never use it... but mine still works, in schmoo's case the cost to fix it would not be worth it, because he would never use it, and not to mention his car has some other plans when he is out in GJ!...

    ac for fat people, LOL!!!
i have a blox mani, stay away from ine of them. shaving the valve cover is a pain in the ass. u could always go inline pro. If i were you though, now that u are already boosted. save up and get a BIG snail with a equal length manifold to make some good power(keeping in mind of buillding the motor to hold it along with tranny etc). mind you u might have to get a thicker/smaller radiator depending on fitment with wastegate but i think id be worth it. a guy around here....Buffalo.... was making 517WHP on his civic w/ race gas. about 450-475 on pump. save up and go big. BUILD A MONSTER, i hope ill be happy at 300ish i really dont wanna build the bottom end

I have no idea. If I were to switch to a T3/T4, I would consider a ramhorn or top mount. I would really like a Precision BB turbo, but the funds wouldn't be able to support it.

It would be slowly built. I wouldn't want any more than 400 whp for a daily driver. When the engine hits 200k, I will rebuild it with forged internals.

And if I did decide on a Blox manifold, I would do it right and elbow the wastegate off instead of shaving the block.

Looking good, hopefully mine will be done before the summer but i doubt it.

Who the hell needs AC...hell my car never came with AC or PS. Not as hot here in NE PA as in cali, but my car gets me cool with the windows down . Its alot better than driving the BMW in which NO window will go down, the sunroof wont open and the AC blows hot!!! Now thats fun driving in 80-90 weather.

    not right..........just different

hey, i noticed in the pic of all the junk taken out there is a pulley. that pulley has the AC belt run over it right? now im not sure if your 96 is different then my 95 BUT that pulley is part of the lower motor mount which also holds the existing AC pump. true/false?

I would never get rid of the power steering. Firstly, it is too much effort. Secondly, I am weak and can't deal with putting all my muscle into parallel parking.

It sure would save some room, though.

    It is wrong.

The pulley is the whole A/C compressor. You can only take out the 4 bolts holding it to the mount. Also, the tensioner and idler pulley was removed afterwards.
