why wouldn't it run? the timing belt and sprocket would probably stay on and it would turn because its keyed, so your cams and dizzy would work fine and the water pump would still be going so it wouldn't overheat. still kinda stupid though cause the timing sprocket or belt could easily slip off the end of the crank.

depending on how much the pulley was loose mabye it could still run. when the bolt poped did the pulley come all the way off. im guessing the alternator was still going cuz wouldnt the battery die......anyways thats gotta SUCK....if true. got any pics?

if his pulley cam completley off then your cams wont turn no fuel, because the valves dont open so it wouldnt run. so there for i call bullshit again!

hmm.. i hadn't thought of that.. i guess if he were lucky and the belt held onto the sprocket, the worst that would happen would be that he'd drain his battery.
still.. fishy.

God DAHm crank pully bolt just snaps off and the pully started jumping up and down through out the whole bottom of the car. We jump out to find the pully. Huh that was fun I95 pitch black using a light off a cell phone. What a joke. Could'nt find the pully but find the other half of the bolt. Funny.. Anyways we drove the car another 2-3 miles with no pully off the exit and out to a gas station
he said he lost it thats not possible!

Not to re-hash on the subject, but technically. Wouldn't the car run w/o a crank pulley? He just wouldn't have a working alternator, power steering pump and what ever else is driven by the pulley right?

A car won't run very long without alternator current, so I don't think it is possible to drive it more than a few miles even with the timing belt still attached.
I just find this somewhat impossible considering the strength of those pulley bolts, the crank key, and the belts holding it on would make it very difficult to snap off.

You Big Dummy
On a side note......My ac compressor siezed up once (shares belt with alternator) and I cut the belt off to get home. Anyways, I made about a 30 minute drive without a alternator. Thats with stereo and all lights off.

that's because your alternator was still working. the two do not share a belt.

Did you miss that I said the alternator shared the same belt as the A/C compessor? I am not a retard, obviously I was talking about another model car. I drive a Prelude. Next time I'll be more specific.

I drove my old bronco 2 two hours with no alternator and it was fine. that was actually when I drove it to the junkyard to get my integra. traded the bronco in for a set of door panels for the integra.

well on an interga without an alternator and your lights on i know for a fact that you have power for about 15 minutes. i blew an alternater at the track and had to drive it home. just ended up getting it towed do to the fact that it wouldnt hold a charge and when we would charge it it would only last like 15 minutes
what is the point of driving if you cant drive fast!
