Default Removing the ECU from 99 GSR

OK, my last car got stolen so I am really paranoid about this one getting jacked, especially since it is a GSR and there have been some car robberies in my area recently. Is it difficult to take the ECU out so noone can just start the car and get off with it? Can someone please explain how to do it? I have to leave my car parked for up to 8 hours sometimes in a lot and I want to make sure it is safe. Thanks, any help is appreciated.

dude, honestly....pulling the ECU out when you park and reinstalling it over and over again will get to old and tiring you'll stop anyway. just get a good alarm.

however if you want to do it....pull out the passenger kick panel, unbolt 2 or 3 10mm bolts and disconnect the harness. mind you....you'll probably have to pull the negative battery cable to prevent surging the ECU.

I do got an alarm.... its just that I gotta park it for long periods of time at a college campus when I am in class/work. It could take me 20 mins to walk back to my car so a good alarm would be useless anyways. I'm paranoid as hell and I ain't tryna have my car jacked again.

You could pull your main relay fuse or unplug your spark plug wires instead :dunno:.

If you look on your fuse box in the engine bay and read the outside, it will tell you where the backup fuse is, it should be a 7.5. Open the box and pull it out. This cuts the power to your ECU. Each time you put it back in it's going to reset the ECU, so you're going to want to let it idle without touching the gas for a bit, then turn off the ignition and start it up again.

Fuel pump switch, starter kill switch, hidden in the car. Or, you could remove the ECU from the stock location, and just tuck it under your floormat. Then all you have to do to remove it is unplug it from the harness...but you'd have to carry it around everywhere.
