Rendering of Solar Hydrogen Station

Honda announced that it intends to build a solar hydrogen station on the grounds of the Saitama Prefectural Office in Japan. The plan is part of the automaker's "Next Generation Personal Mobility Field Test." In addition, Honda will equip a FCX Clarity with an outlet to function as a mobile 10 kW power source. Since the FCX Clarity uses a chemical reaction to produce energy with zero CO2 emissions, its outlet will enable the vehicle to serve as a "zero-emissions" mobile electricity generator.

Honda says that the Saitama Prefectural Office solar hydrogen station represents the hydrogen-powered society of the future, while the specially equipped FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle will refuel at the solar-powered station and serve as both an everyday vehicle and an electric generator. This setup will supposedly allow Honda to do extensive testing on the technological capabilities and operational requirements of a solar hydrogen station in a real-world urban environment.

The automaker aims to complete construction of the solar hydrogen station and equip the FCX Clarity for power generation by March of 2012.
