GSR w/ fuel problem

I have a 92 civic hatch with 95 gsr motor swap. There seems to be a recurring problem with the fuel. Ever since I put the motor in about a year and half ago, it has been running rich. All parts seem to be working to spec and I have all the right parts as well. I just can't seem to figure out where the enrichment problem is occuring from. This is bad as you could imagine because not only are my ports about seized up, but it keeps coating my spark plugs and there is massive carbon buildup on my pistons. I need to get this problem fixed and suggestions would help. Could it be a faulty fpr? If so, how can I tell. Also, could it be the injectors? How can I tell?

The car has been running fine except for running rich. The car has its power and everything works well except since about a week ago. One day back from work, the car started to hesitate. Usually, this would be the problem if you have a bad tps sensor, but I had just replaced it and it was working fine. Then, the very next day, I get in, ready to go to work, and as I am driving down my road, it not only hesitates really really bad, but now it backfires and will hardly get up when I press the gas. I am assuming its the spark plugs and that they are coated again and need to be replaced. I will not know until tonight when I open it up to try and fix it. Other suggestions my friends gave me were loose timing belt (stretched) or bad spark plug wires. I need help with this situation because I am stuck at the house until it is fixed.

Check spark plug wires...
Wait till after dark, & this works better when the engine is completely cold. Take off the sparkplug cover plate so you can see all of the wires. Start the engine & turn off ALL the lights. Look for any sparks - see if the wires have a faint blue glow. They should be COMPLETELY dark. If they have any arcing then replace the wires. If the arcing is on the distributor cap, replace it too. And the rotor...

Do you know how to check your camshaft timing? Do that or have it done. But I don't think that's it.

Check your fuel pressure regulator. Ghetto check - the vacuum hose to the FPR should NOT have any gasoline in it. If it does, the FPR is bad. If there's no gasoline, the FPR might still be bad; you have to use a fuel pressure gauge to check it out.

Running rich for so long might have fouled out your O2 sensor. I assume all your fuel system components are stock? What ECM are you running?

the o2 has been bad from the start. I am assuming when you say ecm you mean ecu. I am running the gsr ecu (p72). Thanks for the help so far!

Did you replace your fuel filter becuase mine would stall when it was bad and even die at lights sometimes when i started to go, I changed mine and it made a big difference nigt and day. It could be wrong o2 since there is a difference between sohc o2 and dohc o2 anyways good luck post when you find out

yea I know my o2 has been bad from the start. But when I say rich I mean really really rich. I pulled the spark plugs today and those things have no gap in them because of the carbon buildup. I only had those in for a week or so. Also, my spark plug wires came apart in pieces today as I was removing them. I was reading my Integra shop manual today and it seems that the richness problem could be caused by that evap purge system that comes with the gsr. Only problem is that I heard you have to hardwire the evap system to the ecu for it to work. (because the civic doesn't come with an evap system) Anyone know anything about this? Appreciate the help fellas

get the known problems fixed first....like the wires and o2 sensor. then you can have a better idea how much of theproblem is elsewhere.

those are the problems. The evap purge is causing the fuel problem. I am almost 100% positive, but I wouldn't know where to begin in starting to wire it up

i dont use it on my b18c1 civic, or any other car i have used a p72 on. on both my h22a cars i tossed the evap purge out and never looked back. if you knew it was teh evap purge then why did you post on here? a bad o2 sensor will cause a lot more issues than a non existent evap purge solenoid.

I am assuming its the evap purge because the shop manual's troubleshooting section stated it would be issue. Is it true that if you burn the carbon off the o2 sensor that it is still functional? The only reason I could think why its not working is because it has carbon buildup from running rich for over a year. What do you think
