polything, I know how stubborn those joints can be but hopefully, this will remove all hassle from getting them dislodged. Also, if anyone has any recommendations for a future DIY, let me know and I will look into it. It has to be something doable on my existing setup...I am not going to buy anything just to make a DIY. |

Any one use an OTC slide hammer with CV joint puller attachment to pull the axle from the transmission? Plying it out with a pry bar can gouge or put dents on the transmission case?
http://www.thepartsbin.com/cartools/..._puller-d.html Pry bars can damage expensive aluminum transmission cases, and attempting to do the job by pulling on the axis can damage the roller bearing inside the C.V. joint. With this puller, the axle assembly is popped out of the transaxle without damage, thanks to the straight, even pull provided by the slide hammer. Tool is available with fork only, C.V. joint slide hammer assembly, or just the slide hammer extension. |

Question: would it be possible to replace the exterior boot (i'm hoping to God the interior isn't bad too) w/o removing the whole axle? Would i be able to change it right after i took got the axle out of the hub? Thanks .

Once the outer joint is out of the hub, it only makes sense to take the next step and pop the inner joint out of the tranny or intermediate shaft. You have completed 95% of the axle removal, so why not finish the job and allow yourself more room to make sure the job is done correctly?

thread bump!
![]() I noticed it wasn't mentioned in the writeup about the bearings that go on the spider, do they have a particular way to go on or just any side will do? Thanks

Any side works but on the left driveshaft one of the rollers is different from the rest, so it needs to be installed back on that side. It will all make sense when everything is apart.

Thanks alot for the quick reply, i appreciate it muchly
![]() We've just gone and analysed all the bearings, we noticed that 3 are different than the other 3 but only due to slightly sharper bevelling on the top edging (high side not flat side) Other than that, we cannot see any other differences, what are we looking for? Thanks

Sorry, I meant to say that all the rollers on the left driveshaft were different. It is hard to explain the difference but here is a picture out of the factory service manual if that helps.

What's the best tool to use to remove the circlip and stopper ring? I have used snap ring pliers but it too a very long time. Is there a better way?

Snap ring pliers are the only thing I can think of. I think it is just going to be tedious regardless of what tool you use.

Better than Haynes manual
Great step by step instructions. The Haynes manual has you jumping from chapter to chapter. It tells you to drain the transaxle, remove the stabilizer, remove the brake caliper, tie-rod, what a kluge!
Your instructions made this dreaded task about as hard as a 4 wheel brake job. Thanks again! |

I've changed tires, belts, and hoses before but i'm really excited about trying out the axle boot. read your dirrections but could not upload your pic's for some reason. my e-mail is millibug23@yahoo.com would you mind; if it's not too much work for you; sending those pic's via email so I'll have that extra little help? thank you so much for posting this, the company I went to quoted me $750 to replace the axle boot and two upper ball joints, probably cuz I'm female but I noticed labor was cheap and the more i looked into it I realized that with a little help from good people like you I could save myself hundreds of dollars and learn something I can use over and over again. Thank you for all your help. Amelia
