Parking Brake Help

97 Honda Civic Coupe, Parking break wont lock in place when I try to set it, one of my friend told me theres some link that may have unlinked and should hook it up and adjust back brakes. Any suggestions before I start messing with parking brake or warnings.

Thanks

There is 2 cables (wired) that connect to the e-brake handle usally under the center console or even under the rug. Check those cable to see they are connected. Also if they are you will have to adjust the e-brake. There nut on the long thread will adjust if it goes in it will tighten (vice vesra). If those cable are connected make sure that it did not snap under the car of even on the brake pads or cailper depending what you got. Hope I helped!!!

Yeah, look at those cable connections in the console. Probably 6" back from the pivot of the handbrake lever. But also look at the cable attached to the brakes themselves (disk or drum??) Have someone work the brake while you watch back there.

Before we can tell you how to fix it, you've got to find out just what's wrong.
Is either cable broken? Disconnected at either end?
Maybe the cable is just rusted & seized inside it's housing?
Maybe the brake mechanism inside the caliper (or drum) is messed up?

I think from what the guy is saying, the brake is working fine, its just the ebrake lever that's not locking in the up position
is this correct ?
if thats the problem you dont need to touch your brakes at all
just remove the middle console, and take a look in there

Now I get it... That ratcheting mechanism is inside the handle. But you'll probably have to get the consoles apart to see it. Maybe something is wedged in with the thumb-button, so it's always pressed in??
