Damn good guide, I followed it (minus the new flywheel) and everything went fine, took my about 2 days in total but well worth it once its done. Anyone wanting to do it, and who have the patience to do it should check this guide anyday. cheers man.

Great install guide!
Because I found this install page, I decided to replace
the clutch in my 94 DelSol myself.
First time attempting a clutch install.
Followed the directions almost exactly (did not take the
drive shafts out of the wheel hubs, filled up the oil at the
fill hole with a squeeze bottle and tube)
Everything went great!! Most difficult part was getting the
transmission shaft into the pilot bearing - needed a pretty
good shove.
Thanks again for the install guide with pics
saved me some $$$ and learned somthing new!!

It is not that bad 99% of the time, Josh and I put mine in the first time we tried, took about 5 minutes to get the tranny into where it needed to be

got milk?
westcoaststyle.. u the man! just the perfect write up i need for my 6gen civic. cuz i think i fried my clutch when i was trying to drive up Lombard street in Frisco.. it was horrible smell and white smoke coming from under the car. looked like i was doing a burnout while rolling backwards.. had too much stuff in the trunk! such a stupid idea to drive up lombard.. and stupid suv in front blocking my ass.
so besides the possibility of my clutch being fried.. what else should i be changing as well?

when removing the transmission do you have to remove both axles?
-
Still here... sorta...
CRX, not sure. Most likely very similar though.
It's much easier to remove the axles so that you can separate the transmission from the engine. If you don't, you'll have them snagging on things and really getting in the way. I prefer to remove them.

followed destructions & it worked... 87 CeRviX Si
read through the thread twice, looked @ all the pics twice
downloaded them to my PC & went to work.
thanks WCS, bought a clutch kit for $85, bought 1/2 breaker bar
& 32MM from Loews Home Improvement & off I went.
1 day to take it apart, 1 day to put it back 2gether
i figger this is how most things in the world get done,
1 person decides to do something, in this case post a
great diy write up, complete with pics.
thx again

Your avatar loves you enough.
Yes, the car in the pics is Chris'. Slap his ass on your way out.

Youll have to put me on the list for positive comments. Very detailed I must say. Only problems I had was the damn keeper pin and the aligning of the tranny. Other than that it was nothin. I actually took out the whole tranny just to open up the bell housing to replace the Input Shaft Bearing. I read through another guide for that but, loved this guide to get me to it. Thanks
Do more guides with more pics !!!

I beat the sh*t out of that dreaded pin. Couldn't get it out.
Just left the shifting rod connected to tranny.
87 Si has cable clutch & the balljoint/castlenut is 180' flipped
from the later ones. A good whack to the balljoint got it loose.
figgered i saved $500 & learned something in the process.
I thought you had to take the whole damn engine out, till
i read this thread. it rocks, told all my friends about it.
-
I have rented a balljoint separator from Kragen but it did not work. How do you get the balljoint loose from the lower control arm without damage? What part of the lower control arm do you hit with a sledge hammer? Will the lower control arm dent or crack?
-
there is a little trick that you can do. While the tire is off you simply raise the hub and get a 14mm or so socket. You'll now want to put the socket in the portion of the arm near the ball joint. The area im talking about is the one that would squeze onto the socket when you lower the floor jack. After you lower the jack, just push down on the hub manually with all you got. Make sure you untighten the lower balljoint bolt but, not take it off completly. After awhile of pishing down, you will eventually hear a loud pop which is the seperation of the LControlArm and the LBalljoint.
Hard to explain unless someone has posted this procedure with pics.
